About Yummy Bakes Gluten Free
I have made this blog to share my gluten free journey, having been diagnosed with coeliac disease at the age of 10, and overnight finding myself unable to eat my favourite foods anymore. Back then, gluten free bread, cakes, biscuits, pastry had neither the texture or the taste of ‘normal foods’ and so I took up baking the treats that I missed so much. Baking became a normal activity for me, I would bake after school or on the weekends, I would bake when it was a birthday, and I would research gluten free recipes online that I wanted to try in the future.
The response I had from family and friends was really positive and I enjoyed eating my baking … and gradually this led to me become a gluten free baking enthusiast, who loves to make sweet bakes treats for myself, friends and family to enjoy.
For me, baking has become a mindful and enjoyable activity, over the years I have become increasingly passionate about gluten free baking as it allowed me to continue to enjoy baked goods that I loved before I was diagnosed and that I thought I would not be able to eat again. I am largely self-taught, with the help of some great recipe books, and recently have enjoyed taking some classes as my baking has become more ambitious and I have started to develop my own techniques and tweaks to the recipes I use.
On this blog I will make gluten free recipes recommendations and review recipes that I love and have had success with. I will also post about restaurants, bakeries, other eateries that I have visited and have loved or that have great gluten free selections.
